Expert Voices, and an invitation

Natural MeReviewed by Nathaniel Szerezla, CNM-certified naturopathic chef3 min read

The short answer

Expert Voices is where we publish commissioned essays and evidence reviews by registered nutritionists, dietitians, doctors and researchers, credited to them in full. We pay for commissioned pieces, we do not accept sponsored placements, and we do not publish anything a named practitioner has not actually written.

Most of what we publish is written or reviewed in-house. But there are subjects where the honest answer is that somebody else knows more, and on those we would rather commission the person who does than approximate them.

This section is currently open and unpublished. We would rather show an empty shelf than fill it with names that did not write the words.

Who we are looking for

What we publish

Evidence reviews
What the research genuinely supports on a contested topic, including where it is weak or unsettled.
Practitioner essays
What you actually see in clinic, and where the public conversation has drifted from it.
Explainers
One mechanism, explained properly, for a reader with no background.
Dissent
We will publish a well-argued piece that disagrees with something we have already said. That is the point of commissioning outside the building.

Our terms, stated plainly

We are a UK health publisher and we take that seriously. We do not publish treatment claims, we do not publish anything that could be read as advice on treating cancer, and we will decline pitches that stray there regardless of who is offering them.

How to pitch

Email hello@naturalme.app with the subject line Expert Voices. Two or three paragraphs on the idea, a line on why you are the person to write it, and a link to something you have written before. You do not need to write the piece first, and please do not.

We read everything and reply either way.

Common questions

Do you pay contributors?

Yes, for commissioned pieces. Rates depend on length and depth and are agreed before any writing starts. We do not run unpaid guest posts.

Do you accept sponsored posts?

No. If a brand is paying for placement, we will not publish it. Expert Voices exists to carry independent expertise, and it stops being worth anything the moment that is for sale.

What credentials do you require?

Registration with a relevant professional body, a clinical or research post, or demonstrable specialist expertise in a subject. We verify credentials before publishing and we display them with the byline.

Can I republish my piece elsewhere?

Usually yes, after an agreed exclusivity window, with a canonical link back. We will confirm terms in writing before commissioning.

Will you publish something that disagrees with your other articles?

Yes, provided it is well argued and properly sourced. Commissioning outside the building is pointless if we only publish agreement.

Food as medicine, written plainly.
